Volunteer Briefing Sheet
Essential safeguarding and event information for all volunteers.
Welcome
Thank you for volunteering at NDTC 2026. Volunteers play an important role in ensuring the event is safe, enjoyable and welcoming for everyone.
Safeguarding Team
The Event Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead are responsible for safeguarding throughout the event.
Any safeguarding concern must be reported immediately.
Report Immediately If You See
- A child who appears lost or distressed.
- Bullying, harassment or discrimination.
- Unsafe adult behaviour.
- Abuse or neglect concerns.
- Medical emergencies.
- Anything that places a child or vulnerable person at risk.
Missing Child Procedure
- Notify the safeguarding team immediately.
- Gather information about the child and last known location.
- Follow instructions from event control.
- Do not leave your assigned area unless instructed.
- Record all relevant information.
Volunteer Expectations
- Treat everyone with respect.
- Follow event procedures.
- Wear accreditation where issued.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Work within your assigned role.
- Report concerns promptly.
Do Not
- Ignore safeguarding concerns.
- Promise confidentiality to a child making a disclosure.
- Take children away from activities without authorisation.
- Share safeguarding information on social media.
- Place yourself in unnecessary one-to-one situations.
Emergency Procedures
- Follow venue emergency instructions.
- Contact event control immediately.
- Call 999 where there is immediate danger or serious injury.
- Inform the safeguarding team as soon as possible.
Useful Reminder
If something does not feel right, report it. It is always better to raise a concern than to ignore a potential safeguarding issue.
