Volunteer Code of Conduct

Purpose

Volunteers play a vital role in delivering a safe, inclusive and enjoyable event. All volunteers are expected to follow this Code of Conduct and support the safeguarding arrangements in place throughout NDTC 2026.

Volunteers Must

• Treat everyone with dignity, fairness and respect.
• Promote the welfare of children and young people.
• Follow event safeguarding procedures at all times.
• Report concerns immediately.
• Work within the limits of their role and responsibilities.
• Follow instructions issued by event control and safeguarding personnel.
• Wear official accreditation where provided.

Volunteers Must Not

• Use abusive, offensive or discriminatory language.
• Be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on duty.
• Share confidential safeguarding information unnecessarily.
• Take a child away from event activities without authorisation.
• Arrange private meetings with athletes or children.
• Communicate with children through personal social media accounts.

One-to-One Situations

Volunteers should avoid unnecessary one-to-one situations with children. Where this cannot be avoided, another responsible adult should be present wherever possible.

Physical Contact

Any physical contact must be appropriate, necessary and in the best interests of the child or participant. Contact should never be excessive, secretive or open to misunderstanding.

Photography and Social Media

Volunteers must follow the event Photography and Social Media Policy. Personal photography of children while volunteering should be avoided unless authorised as part of an official event role.

Reporting Concerns

If a volunteer witnesses or suspects inappropriate behaviour, abuse, neglect, bullying, discrimination or any safeguarding concern, it must be reported immediately using the safeguarding reporting system or directly to the Event Safeguarding Lead.

Failure to Comply

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in removal from volunteering duties and referral to the appropriate authorities or governing body.
